Momma Says Eat Your Beets…

Looks like Mom was right all along about eating my beets! As a kid I loathed beets!  Those round, red, juicy, vegetables that once made me gag at the sight of them, are now (always has been really) the super-food of this century.

While I gave my mom a fare amount of grief about the red wonder, I am now pushing my family towards a daily dose of beet juice.  When coupled with oranges and apples, the Girl On Track gang are sucking these babies down every morning.  Except the dancer!  She's not the on board.

Packed with nitrates and other vitamins galore, this wonder drink helps lower high blood pressure, reduces inflammation, and improves athletic performance (perfect for my young sprinter).

With juicer research in tow, I headed to the local Walmart and picked up a Hamilton Beach Big Mouth juicer just under $60.  It works well, cleans easy, and  the instructions provide valuable tips like "use a disposable bag in the pulp basin for easily clean up" (ah ha!).
